Individuals that are well-informed, engaged, and analytical of the images portrayed about them is key to a democratic and empowered community. In the current climate, being a consumer of media is far more encouraged that being a critical participant.
So, what is media? How does it impact our lives? How are Latinos specifically portrayed in the media? How do those portrayals impact individual and community self-esteem and social agency?
The Minnesotano Media Empowerment Project is developing curriculum for adults, teens, and youth to explore these questions and to train individuals and groups on effective ways to engage with the media in their area.
The curriculum will range from 8-week courses to be taught to youth and teens, to one-day workshops on media empowerment and advocacy for adults.
The training materials will be available for download from our website as they become available.
